Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) sent a letter to the White House in which she requested that President Trump direct the Army Corps of Engineers to allocate increased Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE) funding to the construction of the Florida Shore Protection Project in Pinellas County. Congresswoman Luna also urged the Secretary of the Army to direct the Army Corps of Engineers to waive easement policy requirements, which would allow the project to continue with emergency funding. The Florida Shore Protection Project is well behind its scheduled completion date, which may have exacerbated the extensive damage and loss of life from Hurricanes Idalia, Helene, and Milton. By completing the Florida Shore Protection Project, Pinellas County residents will be better protected from future hurricanes. “Inadequate funding and slow-moving bureaucracy has prevented the construction of a major project that would protect Pinellas County residents from some of the damage that comes with hurricane season,” said Congresswoman Luna. “I’m confident that President Trump will help cut the regulatory red tape that’s delayed this project and give Floridians the support they need.” To view a copy of the letter, click here. |
