Rep. Luna Responds to Clearwater Waste Treatment Plant Spill

May 11, 2023

Contact: Edie Heipel,

In two separate incidents this week, a total of an estimated 500,000 gallons of sewage from a wastewater treatment plant in Clearwater, FL, spilled into surrounding areas and waterways in Pinellas County.

Rep. Luna issued this statement following the spill:

“I am dismayed to learn of the massive sewage spill in my district from a Clearwater waste treatment plant. We have learned that crews have been engaged in clean-up efforts and are testing nearby waterways for bacteria, yet a lot remains unknown.

This is obviously extremely concerning for all residents in Pinellas County and my office will be working with local officials to ensure that more information becomes public and clean-up efforts are aided quickly and efficiently.”
